Day 8
In the morning we met up with Kathleen again for a guided city tour around Munich. Kathleen even donned her traditional Bavarian clothing for our tour! At the end of our tour we were free to explore Munich on our own.
Breaking off from our group we spent time wandering around the market square indulging in honey candy, fresh produce, pretzels and Bavarian donuts! We enjoyed lunch at a local restaurant we passed during our guided tour, sampling a variety of bratwursts and pumpkin soup. We explored all of the shops and market booths before heading to the Deutsches Museum.
The Deutsches Museum, located by the Isar river, is a museum dedicated to science and technology. Exhibitions that we viewed included: aviation, machinery, power/electricity and marine navigation. Many of the exhibitions include a 'hands on' component allowing for an interactive experience. After we finished at the museum we headed back to the market place to enjoy time in the local biergarten. Germany follows a Biergarten law that states you can bring any outside food that you like into the biergarten, as long as you purchase a beer from one of the local purveyors. We enjoyed pretzels we purchased from the marketplace and our beer, sharing a long table with locals and tourists alike. We returned to the laundromat to pick up our clothes before heading to find dinner, shortly after dinner we headed to bed preparing for our early departure in the morning to visit our second German castle.
