Day 11
On our way to Hallstatt we stopped to visit a few Sound of Music filming locations. The fogging skies and intermittent rain kept us from riding the luges, luckily when we arrived in Hallstatt the weather was starting to warm and the sun was shining!
On our way to Hallstatt we stopped to view the gazebo from the famous "Sixteen going on Seventeen" scene in the Sound of Music and the tree lined lane that Julie Andrews walks down swinging her suitcases. Farther down the road we stopped in a small village to visit the church where Maria and Captain von Trapp's wedding was filmed and enjoy time in another Austrian cafe before arriving in Hallstatt.
Upon arriving in Hallstatt we took a boat tour around the lake to take in the outstanding views that Hallstatt has to offer. After checking into our hotel we gathered together a picnic from the local convenience store to enjoy on our balcony. We enjoyed Austrian wine and leberkase, which we were told every Austrian loves by the age of three by a local at the convenience store! We enjoyed our picnic and the beautiful views from our balcony then decided to take a stroll in the sunshine through the beautiful streets of Hallstatt.
When we returned to our hotel we joined a congregation of our fellow tour mates for wine and conversation in the common area outside of our hotel rooms. That night we enjoyed a group dinner at our hotel, partaking in a local fresh fish and delicious garlic soup. After dinner we took a nighttime stroll through town with a few fellow tour mates before retiring to bed. The next morning we left a sleepy Hallstatt filled with fog to head towards our last stop...Vienna!
